The Da Vinci Approach

Time and again, the three-step method I've dubbed the "Da Vinci Approach" has proven to be my secret weapon. More than just a strategy, it's a transformative experience that makes us competitive in innovation, resilience, and problem-solving, allowing us to reach goals and solutions that were once thought not possible. This approach has helped me solve the unsolvable, achieve the unachievable, and dream again, not only in my career but also in my personal life.

3 Steps to Relight the Creative Fire

1. The Power Playlist
Before we can create and receive inspiration, we need to unshackle ourselves from the heavy emotions of the situation and de-stress. We need a Power Playlist of Inspirational Tools to restore our emotional calm. While I will always endorse music as a key tool in our playlist, there are many others. Most physical outlets such as hiking, biking, swimming, or other forms of exercise, as well as all creative outlets, can serve to help you find your emotional balance and clear away the heavy emotions holding you back. The key here is to make sure your inspirational tools don't involve anyone else. You need to have full control here. If you are reliant on someone else to pull your head above water, you might find yourself down and out of luck because they aren't available. These tools need to be something you can fully control. This personal playlist will be your ally in navigating challenges and tough situations, so all you gotta do is "press play."

Why I recommend music: Music is the language of emotion, helping us understand and release the emotions that weigh us down. It's one of our greatest tools for helping us unshackle ourselves from burdensome emotions so we can think freely. Create a playlist of songs that resonate deeply with you. I prefer instrumental music, such as dramatic classical music or intense movie soundtracks.

2.
The Power of Almost
One of the hardest challenges in life to overcome is "the almost." Our almosts are the moments when we get so close to our dream, and don't quite reach it. In sports, most teams that take second place rarely come back the following year to win it. In life, when you get so close to your dream and fail, it can often leave us forever wanting.

The Power of the Almost is a process for realizing these moments in our lives are not failures. They're the greatest adventures of our lives. They provide the spice and flavoring. And they teach us the best lessons. You'll never learn more than you will from an "almost."

We learn to not only embrace our almosts, but be grateful for them. When we find gratitude for our almosts, we stop reliving these moments of our lives, trying to rewrite history, and instead accept the past for what it is: our greatest teacher. When we're grateful for our past, we allow ourselves to succeed in the future.

3. The Power of the Blank Page:
This is the most crucial step. Creating from the blank page can look like a number of things, whether it's jotting down thoughts in a journal, filming videos, opening a brand new Pro-Tools session, painting on a blank canvas, or expressing through any other creative outlet. The point here is to make sure there are no parameters, no expectations, and no wrong answers. Allow creativity to flow unhindered. The more unbridled the experience, the more original the outcome. This is how you stretch your imagination into the far reaches of the galaxy. As you discover the power of the blank page, you'll see this creativity bleed into every other aspect of your life, allowing you to craft unique solutions to any challenge.

By regularly practicing these three steps, you'll relight your creative fire, allowing you to shine bright enough to light any darkening sky with your own constellations. The more you engage with these practices, the more dynamic your creativity will become.
