Music for Mental Health - Climb Ev'ry Mountain

Climb Ev'ry Mountain is one of the most inspirational songs in the history of music, and it's from one of my all-time favorite musicals, The Sound of Music. The lyrics, the music, the way the bridge leads to the biggest and most liberating key change--it's a masterpiece by two of the greatest songwriters in the business, Rodgers and Hammerstein. "A dream that will need all the love you can give, every day of your life for as long as you live"--these lyrics resonate with me like few others have. I certainly have a dream that will only become a reality if I give it ALL my love, 100%, and do so every day for the rest of my life. What is my dream? To find happiness with the people I love.

When I'm down, which is often, I need a song that reminds me why I climb and strive to be better every day. Being a father, husband, provider, neighbor, and friend--it can be taxing. It gives me great anxiety every day. Pressure weighs on me to do even the bare minimum for these roles, let alone perform to the best of my abilities. I often wake in the early hours of the morning with the stress of it all. So I turn to music, and I find my peace of mind. Climb Ev'ry Mountain reminds me that there are still mountains yet to climb, and I can climb them ONE STEP AT A TIME. I don't need to surmount these intimidating peaks in a single bound. I don't need to race up the steep inclines at breakneck speeds. I just need to step up, everyday.

My favorite version of this song is sung by Marisha Wallace, a powerhouse vocalist with an expansive range and an expertise that showcases the subtle nuances of this classic anthem.
